Saturday November 9
Well... we spent some time in Sultanamet, and in Galata. Logically, heading over to the Asian side of Istanbul to explore further just made sense. Also, Selin offered to let us stay in her family's house while she returned to Bandirma for the work week. This was an exceptionally generous offer, one that we initially thought to refuse, before we remembered that sometimes saying yes to such offers is OK. Thank you Selin!!
We packed up, and hustled out of Ling Wing as quickly as possible, jumping on the local ferry to Kadikoy (or someplace similar starting with a 'K'). First impressions: the Asian side of Istanbul feels completely different from the EU side, and more interestingly, oddly like Toronto's beaches district. To complete the similarities, a brilliant blue bike path following the coast of the Sea of Marmara east, much like the Martin Goodman trail follows Lake Ontario. No joke. We arrived at Selin's place, just as Deniz and Selin were running out for their friends wedding dinner. Yikes, we may have been 10 minutes late, no thanks to the doorman who insisted on explain the ins and outs of the building to us - in Turkish. Selin and Deniz hastily passed over the keys, bid us farewell, and promised to be back soon. See you kids! Don't burn the house down. :)

In the air we have: the birds. Feeding gulls from the boats seems to be a popular past time. I'm sure these birds have adapted to catch bread in air mid flight. |
The big blue bike path on the Asian side of Istanbul. Strikingly similar to the Martin Goodman Trail in Toronto. |
