Friday August 16th
We walked and cycled around the city of Frankfurt today, recovering from jet lag and organizing ourselves. Frankfurt is a mix of old and new, with evidence that the new is quickly outpacing the old. There are a surprising number of high rises, and construction cranes promise more to come. Apparently, most older buildings in this city were destroyed in WWII and anything that looks old was built more recently to look that way. In typical European style, everyone is well dressed (blue and white stripes are in) and eating quaint little ice creams. First impressions include the ridiculously long street names, confusing signs with bikes on them, a myriad of bikes with hub drive light systems, and super cheap ($3) grocery store wine prices.
