Day 36: Fort William bound

Cycle: 35.14km//2hr17min//15.3km/hr
Friday September 13

We awoke to a partly cloudy but dry day, packed up our sopping wet gear, and began the 12 miles into Fort William. Given our unexpected wild camp the night previous, we ended up with no real food for breakfast (1/2 a bagel and some peanut butter). We vowed to get to Fort William as soon as possible and enjoy a full Scottish Breakfast. While cycling past undulating, picturesque Munro's on our left ('hills' over 1000m) we came across another cyclists nearly finishing his tour of the Lands End-John O Groats route. He'd just had brunch in Fort William... so jealous.

Finally we arrived in Fort Williams, found a bike shop to replace Jenn's seat, and bought white LED lights for the fronts of our bikes. The days are getting shorter, and dusk seems to be coming up on us faster and faster in the day. After long last we found our breakfast at Wetherspoons. In roughly 5 minutes we consumed 2000 calories for 4.50 pounds! Amazing.

Fort William is described as Scotland's outdoor capital (deja vu Vancouver in miniature), and indeed, everyone is walking around in hiking boots, gators, and rain jackets. And... limping. Hmm. Curious. After breakfast we got groceries (not to be caught out again!), attempted to buy whiskey (fail), and went to a campground at the base of Ben Nevis (the UK's highest mountain!).

This is serious Madalene. She had one goal. A full Scottish Breakfast 12 miles down the road.
En route distractions only delay breakfast.
Things like impromptu chain cleaning...
And bike seat buying. Jenn was horrified at the pink accent. I like it.
Success!!
