Day 38: Glen Nevis Campground

Cycling: negligable
Sunday September 15

Have you ever watched a baby giraffe try to play with a soccer ball?
No ?
Neither have I.
But, I imagine that if one did, it would resemble what we looked like walking around today (after bouncing down Ben Nevis). Legs that don't function, that won't bend, that only get in the way. The quads, calves, hamstrings, etc. all completely useless. Now we understand why everyone in Fort Williams is walking around limping! They hiked Ben the previous day.

In other news, today we began waiting out "the storm", and Jenn started wearing plastic bags on her feet. For most of the day, we hid in the campsites laundry room (wind and rain reigning outside). Eventually we bored, and headed to the pub. Today I spent a good part of the day watching the clouds run around the sky, and intense showers turn on and off.  Eventually back at the campsite we made a quick dinner,  and settled in to watch Atonement. Strange to see a movie with scenes in a places we just cycled through. Brae Dunes to be precise and Dunkirk. Strangely familiar. Unmistakable in fact. Same space, different time. Very important.
Not a day to be heading for the Hebrides!
