Ah, the sweet sound of rain in the morning, delicate crusher of optimistic and energetic plans to rise early and seize the day. 7, still raining. 8, still raining, 9... I suppose rain or no rain, its time to get out of the tent, make coffee, make breakfast, pack up wet gear, and cycle away. As it turns out, once we were of the tent, it really wasn't all that bad. And, we found ourselves in the middle of a local bike race around Ullapool. Joining the throng of roadies, we looked rather funny, but it was nice to have some company, see fellow cyclists, and have the added respect from cars that an official race affords. It was a splendid route, primarily along the coast north of Ullapool. Sadly, lows clouds and rain prevented us from seeing many of the higher peaks, and appreciating the big wide open wild spaces that we could sense lurking behind the clouds.
What kept us largely entertain, and occupied, was the up up up down down down up down up down up up up down up down up that characterized this route. This area of Scotland has also been designated a geological park... meaning that at regular intervals there are signs interpreting the geological features visible. This signs are very useful for a) learning, b) giving Jenn time to catch up on the hills. We are now experts on Lewisian Gneiss, Torridonian Sandstone, and, of course, sea bed quartzite (if you click the links, you too could become an expert).
Today we looking forward to a campsite and a shower. Thus, words can not express the disappointment we felt when are one chance at a campsite failed miserably at the one and only important thing: a warm shower. Dejected and unimpressed, we rolled away. 400 m down the road, we pitched our tent beside a river, hidden behind a stone shed.

Despite the rain, it is really pretty. |
This picture looks strangely faked, but I assure you it is not. Our Campsite behind the shed and our bath while standing in a bowl of heated water. |
