Day 47: Stornoway Day 1

Tuesday September 24

In the light of day, we realized wed scored a pretty good camp site near a beach just east of Stornoway. We broke camp early as we were out of supplies for breakfast, not to mention cold and a little cranky from hunger. We headed into to Stornoway and B-lined for Tesco's. Next we headed to the castle grounds to find a nice spot to make breakfast and coffee.

Two coffees and our standard croissant sandwiches had us feeling more energized and optimistic about the day. We headed to a camp ground, planning to drop off our stuff, and head to Callanish. As we did this, the weather turned, fog rolled in, and we found ourselves delaying getting on the bikes again (1pm now). Instead we decided to go back to Stornoway, visit the library, stay warm and dry, and catch up on much needed computer/internet activities. The library closed at 5PM, and we were back on the streets. A bottle of wine from Tesco's eased this transition, and we returned to the campsite for dinner, continued work, blogging, and finally rejoiced in a supremely warm, and functional shower.

Packing up our camp near Stornoway. It's not often you have visitors info direct you first to where you can wild camp for free. We found this place in the dark of night, and hoped it wasn't someones back yard in the morning.
Our breakfast next to the Lews castle in Stornoway.
Our much beloved croissant sandwich.
